Created by the Hazelden Betty Ford Foundation in 2006, My Ongoing Recovery Experience (MORE) is an award-winning, evidence-based, interactive online program aimed at helping participants transition into a home environment following addiction treatment at a residential treatment center. Since the highly-structured environment of residential treatment ends when a patient returns home to daily life, addiction relapse is a real concern. Research has found that most relapses occur within the first six months after an individual finishes their residential treatment. The MORE program is meant to help get clients past the year mark, where their chances for permanent recovery are far higher.
MORE programs include (1) clear, detailed instruction from session facilitators, (2) participant workbooks, and (3) a DVD with videos that complement lessons. These three primary components work together to provide participants with the structure and positive learning experience they need to make sobriety and recovery an achievable part of their lives. Content can be tailored to each client’s needs, from identifying relapse triggers to establishing reliable coping strategies and working on adopting a new identity that includes sobriety.
Developing and maintaining healthy relationships with others is also a key part of MORE. One vital relationship that participants have access to is a recovery coach to help them on their way to a healthier lifestyle. The MORE program can help individuals to combat powerlessness, understand how relapse happens, identify warning signs of a possible relapse, and develop their own personalized relapse prevention plan. They will also learn what to do if a relapse does happen. The focus is on recovering individuals and helping them to succeed, using every angle possible to prevent and deal with potential relapse.
The standard program is digital, but print adaptations are available. At our Ohio addiction recovery center, we hold sessions two day per week for a total of 18 weeks. Through education, skillful guidance, and a focus on skill-building activities, program directors help recovering clients to sustain recovery after returning home.
At Lake Area Recovery Center, we understand that overcoming behaviors and habits can be difficult. But we also know that recovery and growth are possible.
